WHOA establishes disaster relief fund

Due to the devastation caused from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the Walking Horse Owners Association (WHOA) has established a Disaster Relief Fund. This fund will be used toward the needs of victims from this tragic disaster.

Obituary – Linda Richards

Linda Kay Candelaria Richards of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 after battling cancer for nearly two years. Her absence is so very evident, but her life lives on, in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

The NCWHA, along with the Culbreth and Mosley families, support the youth of our industry through our annual scholarship program. This year, the NCWHA is happy to announce the distribution of four scholarships to very deserving youth.

Equine Obituary - He’s A Top Gun

He’s A Top Gun was foaled on May 2, 2019. He was sired by General Gunn and out of Brookie, a Sky Command mare. He was bred and raised by Grider Farms of Columbia, Kentucky. Carolyn Evans of Eden, North Carolina, purchased him in the spring of 2021 and he was started by Derek Monahan at River View Stables of Ivanhoe, Virginia.

WHOA announces Charles B. Howard Memorial Scholarship recipients

Following the death of Charlie Howard in 2019 a fund was established through the Walking Horse Owners Association to honor his memory by helping young people through continuing education.

Celebration announces Fall Classic Judges

The Celebration will host the Celebration Fall Classic in Cooper Steel Arena from October 31st - November 2nd.  The judging panel for this year’s show will be Leah Boyd, Renee Carlton and Brandon Givens.

After consulting with the WNC Ag Center personnel and a review of the situation in Western North Carolina, the WNC Ag Center and the Executive Committee have reached the decision to cancel the North Carolina Championship, scheduled for next weekend.

The WHAA has arranged a covered area for warm-up. It is not optimal but is big enough for a few horses at a time to warm up if needed under cover.
