Obituary – Ronald "Ronny" Riggs Smith

Mr. Ronald (Ronny) Riggs Smith, age 87 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Friday, February 14, 2020.
Mr. Smith was born in Carroll County, Georgia on February 9, 1933, the son of the late Percy S. Smith and Ludelle Dyer Riggs Smith. He was a graduate of Carrollton High School, proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Army and later became co-founder and partner of Smith Brothers Home Improvement and later Smith Brothers Supply Company. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Carrollton Booster Club, the Georgia Walking Horse Association, Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association and Tabernacle Baptist Church. Ronny was the consummate outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising and training birddogs, camping, horse shows, field trials and fish frys. Parties with friends, music, and dancing made him happy.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Elaine Dean Smith; daughters and son-in-law, Dr. Ronee Griffith (Jim Young), Sheryl Crawford, Ashley (Scott) Hendrix; brothers-in-law, Charles Ferrell and Nelson Dean; grandchildren, Mike (Trisha) Crawford, Amanda (Mark) Brandenburg, Preston Hendrix, Tucker Hendrix; great grandchildren, Madison Crawford, Lance Crawford, Naomi Brandenburg, Hyatt Brandenburg, Remy Brandenburg; nephews, Ray (Josette) Smith, Tommy Smith; nieces, Sharon (Craig) Chalk, Carey Sipp and a number of great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Stuart Smith, Alton Smith, Fleming Smith; sister, Sylvia Ferrell and son-in-law, Doug Crawford. The family would like to especially thank Teon Thurman-Smart, Smart Way Homecare and Sacred Journey Hospice.
The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Funeral service will be Monday, February 17, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Davis officiating. Music will be by Carol Jackson and Dan Akins.
Pallbearers will be Preston Hendrix, Tucker Hendrix, Tommy Smith, Stuart Smith, Keith Bollendorf, Mike Crawford, Nick Ware, and Byron Madden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry and Glenda Jackson, Jimmy Walker, Bobby Freeman, Dennis McDowell, extended barn family, Ralph Watson, Mrs. Lynn Ware, Dr. and Mrs. Brent Mundy, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Karen) Vance, Rev. and Mrs. Will Purvis, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Tate, Angela Myrie, Mr. and Mrs. Ran (Beverly) Berry, Patty Beck, Dr. and Mrs. Bobby Daniell.
Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens with American Legion Post #143 providing military honors.
