James “Allen” May, 66, husband to Becky Cummins May, entered into his eternal rest Friday morning, January 10, 2020 at his business in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 2020 at InMotion Church in Thomson, Georgia with Pastor Scott Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Kiokee Baptist Church Shucraft Cemetery in Appling.  

The only son born to the late Ruth Long May and the late Phillip Roland May, Allen grew up in Wadley, graduating from Bartow Academy. While still in high school, he worked for Battle Lumber and continued his employment there after graduation. He then began work for CSX Railroad where he worked for many years before starting his own company, Precision Paving and Sealing. After closing this company, he went back to his roots and started Precision Pallet Company, Inc. He considered those in his employ his family and did not expect anything more from them than what he was willing to do. Allen loved his Lord and Savior. As a young man, he attended Wadley Baptist Church and was a past member of Kiokee Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and in various other positions. Being very mission-minded, he went on at least fifteen mission trips. For the past six years, Allen has served his Lord at InMotion Church.

First and foremost, Allen was a family man. Known as “Big Al” by most, he was most proud of being “Pop” to his grands. He loved beach vacations with his family and time with Becky at their mountain house in Clayton. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing and going hunting; but his favorite pastime was fishing with his boys: the Alaskan fishing trip being a special, memorable time—not just for the fishing but for the great time and memories made. Allen loved his family unconditionally and stored up his treasures in them. He was happiest and most content in their presence, cherishing their time together. He had a great love for the newest addition to his family, Bella Rose, his French bulldog. Allen knew that we are all created equal—he never looked down on anyone and put everyone on the same, level playing field. Well-respected, a man of integrity, a man with a great work ethic, genuine, honest, charitable, a man with a big heart, and more have been said of Allen. Husband, best friend, father, “Pop”, “Big Al”, employer, co-worker, brother-in-Christ—whoever he was to you, you knew you were loved by him because he had a true love for others through Jesus Christ. Allen has now journeyed to his eternal home where he was greeted with a “Well done my good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of thy Lord”. His eagerly awaited hope is now a reality for eternity.    

Others left to cherish his memory include his children, Jess May (Bettina), Jennifer Brooks (Scotty) and Eddie Waldrop (Brandi); sister, Ellyn Womack (Cale); seven grandchildren, Rivers May, Bailey May, Jackson May, Hampton Brooks, Bentley Brooks, Crews Waldrop and Karsyn Waldrop; nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Pallbearers will be Rick Benning, Les Brown, Curtis Floyd, George Hayes, Hal Keller and Tracy McDaniel.

The family will receive friends at InMotion Church from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. prior to the services on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
