Equine Obituary – Splash Of Gen
Thursday, June 4, 2020

The walking horse industry lost one of its greatest broodmares on Monday, May 18, 2020 with the passing of Splash of Gen. “Mama Splash”, as she came to be known, was born October 3, 1988 at David Landrum Stables in Franklin, Tennessee. Bred by Dorthy Halsey and David Landrum, “Mama Splash” was a black roan mare out of by WGC Pride’s Generator (HOF) and WGC Ebony’s Sun Lady (HOF). She was only one of two fillies foaled by Ebony’s Sun Lady. After the passing of Ms. Dorthy, she became part of the David Landrum Family as her only owner her entire life.
Although a show ring career was not in her cards, she would rise to be one of the most prominent mares in the industry. “Mama Splash” foaled 14 babies, all sired by WGC Gen’s Major General (HOF), who would all go on to capture numerous Futurity, World and World Grand Champions. They included: WGC Major Splash, WC Major Splish Splash, WC Brother Splash, RWC I’m Splashed, Splotched, WC General Splash, Splash Seven, V-8 Splash, Futurity Champion Cocoa Splash, Futurity Champion Another Brother Splash (who currently is the TWH breed representative at the Kentucky Horse Park), One More Splash, The Next Splash, Futurity Champion Brother Oh Brother, and Splashilicious.
“Mama Splash” received the TWHEBEA’s Dam of the Year by Total Points and Dam of the Year by Percentage Points in 2001. She consistently was honored as a part of TWHBEA’s Top 10 Dam of the Year Broodmares during her breeding career.
All of her 31 years were spent in Franklin, Tennessee, where she enjoyed her last days with lots of love, attention and carrots. She joins her half-sister, My Magic Dream (HOF), whose parents were My Magic Marker (HOF) x Ebony’s Sun Lady (HOF), who died September 8, 2018 also at the age of 31. The two sisters were stabled side by side their entire lives. Mama Splash’s legacy will be one that lives on to serve the Tennessee Walking Horse industry for many years to come.
