It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of The Perfect Hawk, a remarkable stallion whose legacy has left an indelible mark on the Walking Horse industry. Born on May 7, 2003, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Hawk was sired by Pusher’s Black Hawk and out of the show pleasure mare, Papa’s Miss Perfect.
Sold as a four-year-old to Paul Simmons, Hawk eventually stood at Spencer Benedict Stables, where he built a reputation as both a performer and a sire. Throughout his breeding career, he produced a host of outstanding horses, both in the performance and flat shod divisions. Among his many notable get are Dobie Gray, Flying High CC, Hey Tomcat, Black Hawk’s Boogie Man, Stagecoach Mary, Sea Hawk, Hawk’s Miss Carmelita, She’s Pitch Perfect, Benjamin Button, and Sir Grey Hawk.
Last fall, The Perfect Hawk was sold to Grider Stables for selective breeding. Sadly, he passed away on April 28, 2025, due to melanoma. More than just a stallion, Hawk was known for his beautiful conformation and gentle spirit. He was, in every sense, truly perfect—and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
